A firearm— [ who the fuck gave strange a gun ] Don’t tell me you ran into that cat?
[ She’s too distracted to comment on his little instruction to save every little scrap of silver, but also, who is he to talk about the farmers keeping their cool?? ]
[Shura only has a couple priorities after reviving this time around. The first is to make sure Aconite was safe, the other was to get drunk as soon as possible. By the time she's able to get to the drinking part, Shura's realizing that she really doesn't want to be alone.
So she's reaching out to Strange, fully aware that she's primed and ready to make some bad choices. If her first call gets static, then she'll just try again in a few hours, and if not then, she'll do it all over again the next night until she can reach him.]
[ Strange's priority was just Alistair. He's got no idea how long that little dragon had been alone, but he was certainly happy to see Strange. There was a lot of cuddling in the room at the inn while Strange debated outright leaving or not. He knew he needed to go back to Didymos soon: coming here was a mistake and he knew it. But should he give people here a heads up or just leave?
Shura calling his courier distracts Strange from his own thoughts for a moment. ]
I'm still in the City. I've taken up a room at the Immortal Duke, though I don't know how much longer I'll be here.
[Shura isn’t leaving any room for discussion, and a moment later, she’ll send directions via thought. It’s probably not a part of the city Strange is familiar with, and she’s very helpfully noting that he shouldn’t make eye contact or look too closely at anyone or anything he might see on his way over. But hey, at least she won’t leave him waiting at the door when he gets there! ]
[ It takes him a little while to get there, mostly due to Strange double-checking the directions and making sure he's going to the right place. When he gets there, Strange knocks on the door. He's only got one free hand: the other hand is holding Alistair close to him. The little dragon is mostly hidden under Strange's coat, but sticks his head out of the coat and coos happily as he sees Shura. ]
He started crying when I tried to leave him, [ Strange explains, a little guilty. ]
[The only reason Rey even knows how to reach him is a mix of her quiet watching of his dragon faq, and the courier being borderline omnipotent. It's been almost a week since their deaths and finally, she tries to reach out, unsure of what to say and afraid to confront him, for fear that he won't have been as lucky as her in coming back from the dead.]
It wasn't a nightmare. [His response confirms that even in waking up in bloodied clothes on the street hadn't already.]
It was the water? [A touch desperate, searching for reassurance.]
Those things I did, I couldn't stop. [At the time she hadn't wanted to stop or be stopped. Now she's faced with the memories and the monster she let herself become.]
But you're- are you okay? [As okay as he can be, at least. As okay as she is. The way the world works has changed and she isn't sure what to make of everything that is different yet, but making amends is important to her. Showing him that she isn't like that is important to her. Not because of who he is but because of who she doesn't want to be.]
Some of it was the water. I saw it in Einjar: a girl who fell in the water started acting oddly and erratic. It lasted until she was cured.
[ But that doesn't explain his actions. Strange is aware that there had to be something else going on that wasn't the river. After all, he wasn't acting like himself. ]
I couldn't stop either. Aside from the water, there was something that changed me. But yes, I'm okay.
If I understand correctly, you've been to Epithymetikon's resting place personally?
[Honestly he's still sort of wrestling with the idea that the three brothers are dead at all]
I realize you say to call it cursed was a simplification of the matter but if you could be more specific, I'd be very curious to know what you mean by that exactly.
Yes, I have. Some others and myself went on an expedition to see the dragon's remains.
[ But time to talk about that whole cursed bit. Strange pauses for a moment, trying to come up with how best to use his words, before he continues talking. ]
As for the specifics, there were a handful of ill-boding factors that could fall under that same 'cursed' umbrella. Animals as well as our animases—animae? They both felt uneasy at the dragon's bones. The bones were covered in anti-necromancy runes while a magically preserved shrine sat inside the skeleton.
I didn't see this myself, but one of our number spotted shadowy figures and an ominous presence around the skeleton. The soil around the dragon was intensely magical, though whether that's due to the a spell or the soil soaking up the dragon's blood, I am not sure.
Some of the magic remaining in the area could be Epithymetikon's, but I doubt very much he set up a shrine inside himself - their ego's not withstanding. This has to be something they've done to keep people out of the area, but the question is whether it's meant to protect the skeleton or protect people from it.
I don't suppose you obtained any samples of the soil? Or etching of the runes?
As a matter of fact, I do have some etchings of the runes. But you're correct: I doubt the shine was set up by Epithymetikon himself, but possibly by some devotees of the dragon.
I live in Didymos. If you want, we can meet up somewhere and I can show you my notes in person.
Of course he’s totally comfortable with this, the ass. Shura is hardly surprised, but damn it, why can’t he just be a little less... this?
But they’re in his room, and she may as well just jump right on in. Maybe he would be just a little less extra if he got one bang out. A quick one—who knew when the little shits would wake up. So once they’re safely behind closed doors, she’ll turn to face him lifting her hands to his shoulders, looking up at him and steeling herself before moving in to press a quick smooch to the corner of his mouth. She’ll linger there for a moment, seeing what he might do before going in for a full on kiss on the mouth.
Shura has yet to learn that Strange exists in a perpetual state of extra.
As she presses a smooch to his mouth, Strange gives Shura a grin of his own. He leans into the linger, moving his hands down towards her hips to try and pull Shura closer towards him. And once the full on kiss on the mouth happens, Strange happily returns it, passionately kissing Shura.
Shura is desperately hoping that he’ll calm down just a little if he gets that domestication he seems to crave so badly. That aside, she has to deal with the awkwardness of banging him while sober, and the easiest way to do that is to just do what she usually does, just a little different. Because she is kissing him back, tongue and teeth and all of the good stuff, letting him pull her flush against him and just making out with him. All because she thinks he likes kissing a lot, so best to indulge him in it early on. Maybe this way he won’t be so intent on kissing her later if he got it out of his system.
It won’t be but a few moments before she’s tugging him over to the bed and trying to haul him on top of her for easier making out.
He does enjoy kissing. And so, this large amount of kissing, teeth and tongue while the two are pressed up against each other, is something that Strange doesn't seem ready to end. He knows that Shura doesn't like it as much as he does. But he'll just have to do something she likes later in order to make this up to her.
However, not long after the kissing starts, Shura tugs him over towards the bed. There's a moment's hesitation before Strange realizes what she's doing and lets her help pull him towards the bed. Right, making out while lying down, hell of a lot easier than kissing while standing up. He positions himself on top of her and continues with the kissing.
voice, early on in the expedition or something
[ This isn’t Shura checking in on Strange’s dumb ass, she swears. ]
no subject
dumb ass sounds pleasantly surprised at the idea of looking up silver: he totally hadn't thought about that. ]
That's a smart idea! It is a city full of dwarves and mining, you'd think that silver would be easy to come by. I'll look around.
How are things back in the City?
no subject
If you find some rare ore or something, bring it back for Amy.
[ Sure, bring the goliath a souvenir, that’s what this is all about. ]
Things are about the same here. I’m about to start showing those farmers how to set up wards, that panic is startin’ to get on my nerves.
no subject
[ and this is how Shura learns that Strange has a gun. ]
It's a pity those farmers are so jumpy. A cool head is best in this sort of scenario.
